Senior Controls Engineer
The Senior Controls Engineer is a fully trained engineer, well versed in control system design and implementation. They will lead the controls effort for a project from start to finish – designing and documenting controls design, programming the control system and commissioning the system at site until customer acceptance. In addition, the Senior Controls Engineer will lend knowledge to more junior controls engineers when possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and document controls algorithms – Must understand equipment and physics behind process and have thorough knowledge of controls techniques and application.
- Analyze and contribute to wind tunnel designs from controls point of view – Must analyze P & IDs, understand the process design and influence process design from controls/controllability standpoint.
- Author technical specifications – Contributing to specifications for cross functional applications or owning the specification for controls application.
- Control algorithm programming – programming and testing of documented algorithm according to coding standards including implementation of existing libraries, creation of additional libraries and custom coding.
- Installation and startup on-site – Complete ownership of controls start-up at site. Communications checkout, equipment startup, controller tuning, debug and troubleshooting, interaction with other disciplines within the company and management of site schedule
- Possess a strong sense of ownership of their work, managing project and internal deadlines with complete independence.
- Readily accept and prioritize new tasks, completing work within both given and self-managed time constraints
- Work with less experienced Controls Engineers, mentoring and guiding them.
- Develop and improve controls design and implementation process. Identify and implement more efficient practices, alternate methods for control or visualization and determine new opportunities for controls applications
- This position involves a significant component of international travel.
